How Much More Education Does An Orthodontist Have Compared To A Dentist?

Our Favorite Patient Questions
Great question — and here’s the short answer: because this is Dr. Kadar’s practice. 😁
Kadar Orthodontics is a family-owned and operated office, not part of a corporate chain. Dr. Tom Kadar founded the practice over 30 years ago and still plays a central role in every patient’s care. Every scan, every treatment plan, and every major decision is reviewed and guided by Dr. Kadar himself. He’s not just the name on the door — he’s the brain behind the smile!
We’ve brought in additional board-certified orthodontists to offer more appointment times, greater flexibility, and faster service — all while maintaining the same Kadar-level care our patients know and love. These doctors are trusted members of our team and were hand-selected to match our philosophy, values, and patient-first approach.
And the family tradition continues! Dr. Kadar’s son, Tommy, has just finished dental school and is currently completing his orthodontic residency. Once he’s board-certified, he’ll be joining the practice too, keeping it truly a multigenerational, family-led team.
So while you might see a few different friendly faces during your visit, Dr. Kadar is here as always, just supported by an expert team (and soon, his son!) who all work together to give you the best smile possible. 💙🦷
Dr. Tom: Nope — your braces won’t make the alarms go off! 😎✈️
Even though braces are made of metal, the amount used is tiny and not the kind that triggers airport security systems. The detectors are tuned to pick up larger amounts of metal, like what you’d find in belt buckles, steel-toed boots, or luggage. So you’re totally safe to travel — your braces won’t cause a scene at security!
So next time you’re at the airport, walk through with confidence… and maybe flash a little braces bling while you’re at it! 😁🛫
Dr. Ang: Not quite — but it would make a great origin story! 🤖😄
The truth is, orthodontic rubber bands are tiny and generally harmless if swallowed accidentally. They’re made from medical-grade latex or silicone and will usually pass through your system without causing any trouble. Still, it’s best to avoid munching on them — they’re more useful in your mouth than your stomach!
So, no cyborg powers just yet… but keep wearing those elastics the right way, and you will transform — into someone with an awesome, well-aligned smile! 😁💪🦷
Dr. Kaye: Haha — surprisingly, not as often as you'd think! 😴🦷
While some people have classic dreams about their teeth falling out (it’s actually one of the most common anxiety dreams!), orthodontists usually dream more about finishing tricky cases, perfecting smiles, or running out of coffee during a busy day. ☕😅
That said, we do think about teeth a lot — maybe too much — but in a good way! So if your teeth ever show up in our dreams, they’re usually getting gold stars for great brushing and excellent elastic wear. ⭐
Dr. Kadar: Only if they’re gossiping about how well you’ve been brushing! 😄🦷🛌
Okay, not literally — teeth don’t have voices (thank goodness, right?). But they do move a little while you sleep, especially during orthodontic treatment. That’s because braces and aligners work around the clock — even when you’re dreaming — applying gentle pressure to guide your teeth into better positions.
So while your teeth aren’t swapping stories or singing lullabies, they are quietly working together to give you a straighter, healthier smile. Teamwork makes the bite work! 😁💤
Dr. Tom: Ohhh, you’d be surprised what we can spot! 😏🍬🦷
Sticky candies and sugary treats leave behind some pretty obvious clues — like broken brackets, loose wires, and sugar build-up around your braces. And if you haven’t been brushing super carefully, we might even see the early signs of cavities or decalcification (that’s when white spots form on your teeth).
So while we don’t have candy-detecting "Kadar Radar"… we do have a sixth sense for snack sneaking. But don’t worry — we’re not here to judge. Just remember: treats are okay in moderation, but your toothbrush and braces should always be best friends. 😁🍭✨
Dr Tom: Haha — I wish! But if we did have an X-ray of the Tooth Fairy’s teeth, I bet it would be sparkling and perfectly aligned, probably with textbook root structure and ideal spacing. 🧚♀️✨
In real life, when we take X-rays of your teeth, we’re looking at more than just how straight they are — we check how the roots are developing, how your jawbones are growing, and whether there are any teeth hiding that haven’t come in yet (like wisdom teeth or extra baby teeth that haven’t fallen out).
So, while we haven’t caught the Tooth Fairy on camera yet, if she ever visits my office… we’ll be ready! 😄🦷📸
Dr. Kaye: We totally get the urge to glam it up… but bedazzling your retainer is a no-go. 💎😬
Adding rhinestones, glitter, or stickers might look fun, but it can actually mess with how your retainer fits and works. Even more importantly — it makes the retainer harder to clean and creates little spaces where bacteria can hide. That means it can quickly become unsanitary (and nobody wants a sparkly germ factory in their mouth!). 🦠🚫
But good news — you can customize the OUTSIDE of your Kadar Orthodontics retainer case with stickers and jewels, just never glitter! So if you’re craving something fun and unique, talk to us about safe ways to add some personality to your retainer case. 😁🎨
Dr Ang: Oh, we hear a ton — and honestly, we love them all! 😄🦷
From classic jokes to creative one-liners from patients, dental humor is part of the daily routine around here. Some are groan-worthy, some are genius. So keep ’em coming — laughter makes treatment fly by (and smiling is kind of our thing)
Here are some of our favorites:
-
Why did the tooth go to school?
To get a little plaque-ardemic achievement! 🎓 -
What did the orthodontist say to the patient who was afraid of braces?
“Don’t worry, we’ll straighten this out.” 😁 -
What’s a tooth’s favorite dance move?
The floss, of course! 🕺🦷
